Anxiety and Depression

Hypnotherapy...CHANGE is a simple step of the mind away.

RELIEVE ANXIETY, STRESS AND PANIC ATTACKS

And Improve Your Mood……….

Stress or anxiety is a common complaint in today’s society and most people encounter it at some point.

A certain amount can be dealt with naturally as long as it stays within our ‘safe levels’. Stress is a normal part of everyone’s life. Most people learn how to deal with stress in such a way that it does not become a serious ongoing health issue in their lives. However if  it becomes too much for us to cope with it can affect our quality of life. Excessive or prolonged stress can lead to illness, physical and emotional exhaustion, increased anxiety or even panic attacks. When we come under excessive pressure, from our home, work or social factors, we tend to respond with anxiety, anger or depression or a combination of the three.

What Are the Long-Term Consequences of Stress?

In some cases, however, stress can have grave, long-term effects on a person’s mental and physical health. These effects may include hypertension (high blood pressure), increased susceptibility to infection, greater risk for accidents, and alcohol and drug abuse. A particularly serious long-term consequence of stress has become known as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). PTSD occurs when a person has been exposed to an event or series of events so terrible that his or her mind is unable to forget about or accommodate those events even months or years after they occurred. Men and women who have served on a battlefield are particularly susceptible to PTSD, which can eventually lead to a variety of mental disorders, and may end in suicide.

Around twelve million adults see their GPs with mental health problems each year – most of these suffer from anxiety and depression, much of which is stress-related.

DEPRESSION

Have you ever heard of the statement that depression “is a state of mind”  that you just have to work harder to be happy?  Well this is simply not true.  Depression can be separated into the more common reactive type depression that many people can experience in their lifetime.   This occurs in response to the stresses in our lives such as loosing a job, a relationship breakdown, trauma, loss of a loved one or even an extended period of insufficient sleep. A person’s mood is lowered not from their own misfiring brain chemistry, but from events around them that are often beyond their control.  This type of depression can often be short term and can be managed, and even sometimes eliminated with a combination of counselling and hypnotherapy.

Then there is clinical depression which is a chemical imbalance in the brain and must be medicated by a medical professional. While this may sound worse to some people it means there are very real, tangible, achievable solutions to overcoming a condition that seriously impacts on many people’s quality of life. No amount to positive thinking will correct this.  However hypnosis can support the healing process.

Both types of depression are very painful to endure and for those caught in the web of dispairing depression hypnosis can teach the subconscious brain to fight back against fear, loss, grief, guilt, stress or anger.

Often, when it occurs, the individual will turn in on themselves and refuse to engage with others. Severity can range from being almost totally dysfunctional to having some of the symptoms associated with the illness …

Are you experiencing one or more of the following symptoms?

  • A depressed mood and sometimes fearfulness
  • Tiredness and loss of energy
  • Loss of confidence in yourself or poor self-esteem
  • Loss of pleasure and interest in usual activities
  • Inability to concentrate
  • Unable to get to sleep or over sleeping
  • Sluggish, always tired, can’t focus
  • Not wanting to live
  • Eating issues, either overeating or not eating much

This anxiety and depression creates habits of thinking a certain way and experiencing the world in a certain way. Sometimes we can’t even understand how we developed the problem. Once you understand how you create the anxiety or depression you can begin to change it. With hypnosis, depression becomes an easier battle to fight because hypnosis helps you to realise the power you have inside yourself and improves your ability to look at things clearly, rather than through the cloud of negativity depression carries with it. I work  with you in a soothing, calming environment to help you get rid of the anxieties and problems that are weighing you down.

How I can help you

Hypnotherapy  gives us the ability to cope in different situations in a calm and effective way. It helps you relax and unclog your mind.  It helps you clear your vision and your focus.  Once you learn to do that, it will directly reflect in your behaviour and outlook towards life

You will be able to control your anxiety levels and have a calmer, more confident approach to all situations. Its success can be aided, by the use of self-hypnosis and/or a relaxation cd, recreating the calm state experienced during the hypnotherapy session.

 Hypnotherapy requires 3 things from the client:
  1. Relaxation;
  2. Concentration;
  3. Co-operation

Key here for the hypnotherapist is client co-operation. Relaxing into the process  and being willing to work together to challenge your negative thinking is vital. While hypnosis provides direct access to the subconscious mind, it is not a replacement for personal responsibility.
